September 12, 2017

The Alabama Department of Public Health was notified Tuesday about the death of a man in his 50s from Mobile County who tested positive for 2009 H1N1 influenza.

This brings the total number of deaths of persons with H1N1 influenza in Alabama to16. Previous deaths of persons positive for H1N1 influenza have occurred during 2009 to residents of Bullock, Calhoun, Dale, Houston, Jackson, Jefferson, Macon, Madison, Mobile, Montgomery, Russell and Talladega counties.

The continued widespread incidence of 2009 H1N1 influenza in Alabama and the number of known deaths in the state serve as reminder of the need for everyone to take steps to prevent transmission of disease and to be immunized for both seasonal and H1N1 influenza when vaccine becomes available.
