Afternoon daylight helps babies sleep better at night

August 22, 2017

If you want your baby to sleep well at night you should try taking him/her for an afternoon stroll. After a good bout of afternoon sunlight, babies tend to have a much better night's sleep.

A new study found that not only the baby, but parents also, benefit greatly from afternoon sunlight - nocturnal sleep is much better.

Researchers found that babies who sleep well at night tend to get much more afternoon sunlight than babies who have difficult nights - in most cases the good sleepers get twice as much afternoon sunlight.

The researchers asked parents of both types of babies (good and bad night sleepers) to write down their daily routines.

Scientists reckon that a good bout of afternoon sunlight helps kick our biological clocks into action - we secrete more melatonin as a result and sleep better.
